cesarean sections

Sometimes, a cesarean section may be necessary. This can either be planned (elective) or an emergency procedure.

Planned cesarean sections are scheduled for various reasons such as having had two previous cesarean deliveries (LSCS), breech or transverse positioning of the baby, placenta previa, macrosomia (a very large baby), high-risk pregnancies, maternal preference, etc. In such cases, once the pregnancy reaches full term, a date is chosen for the cesarean section to be performed.

Emergency cesarean sections may be required if there are complications such as fetal distress indicated by a drop in the baby’s heart rate, failure of labor to progress adequately, or if the baby passes meconium.

During a cesarean section, anesthesia is administered, usually through the back to numb the lower body. An incision is made in the abdomen, and the baby is carefully delivered.
